We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Innovation Banking - S and SEA CMB.

Role Purpose

This role holder will be responsible for the strategy and execution of New Economy and Innovation Banking related activities across CMB S&SEA. There is a significant opportunity in the New Economy as we look to position ourselves as the go-to bank for tomorrows corporate giants. This role will be critical in bringing together client centric strategies across our full spectrum of clients i.e. investors through to operating companies and work seamlessly across our markets and product suite. The Head of Innovation Banking S&SEA CMB will report to the Head of Corporate & Structured Finance S&SEA and be the key conduit to relevant executive committees in the Region and Group.

Principal Accountabilities

Impact on the Business

In the capacity of Head of Innovation Banking the role holder is responsible for:

Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for Innovation Banking in S&SEA, aligning with HSBC Innovation Banking and S&SEA CMB goals and objectives

Leadership of the Innovation Banking strategy to achieve key performance indicators as set out in the Annual / Rolling Operating Plan (AOP / ROP) including, revenues, expenses, asset balances, liability balances, and Return on Risk Weighted Assets RoRWA while building a sustainable business model

Drive a client centric culture with a key focus on the needs of Innovation Banking clients understanding how to position HSBC to support from Series A through to multi national expansion

Work closely with existing Innovation Banking and Venture Debt teams Globally as well as Investment Banking, Asset Management and Private Banking teams. Share insights and opportunities across teams

Build, recruit, lead, and inspire a high-performing team of professionals dedicated to Innovation Banking including corporate and investor coverage and related financial and treasury solutions. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence within the team

Identify and target key markets and technology and healthcare sub-sectors for treasury and financial solutions. Drive the expansion of Innovation Banking presence across S&SEA

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key institutional investors, founders and market players connecting them across the Region principally Singapore (SEA), India and Australia

Develop and implement risk management strategies to ensure the financial stability of the Innovation Banking portfolio and alignment with appropriate risk appetite frameworks

Build a strong compliance culture and sustainable capability to manage financial crime risk, setting the tone from the top and driving behavioural change across all Business employees to build a safer and stronger HSBC

Displaying HSBC values and a high standard of business conduct and ethics at all times

Customers / Stakeholders

It is integral to the role to:

  • Work across HSBC to implement the Group strategy ensuring the right collaborations are enabled to maximise the integration of its businesses and functions, drive shareholder value and enhance the Group’s brand and reputation
  • Development of a strong understanding of customer need by focusing on customer experience and investing in Group-aligned marketing initiatives that create strong brand awareness to deliver targeted customer propositions built around core products and channels
  • Have the ability to operate Regionally and at the market level recognizing similarities, differences and opportunities for HSBC to connect customers to opportunities in a variety of ways. This will involve the development of appropriate Region/Country marketing campaigns, aligned to global campaigns (as applicable) that highlight core strengths and/or where HSBC is strategically aligned with the customer base
  • Have a clear understanding of how to position HSBC to the investor community through relationship led banking, partnerships and other appropriate channels. Clarity of how to engage other key stakeholders prevalent in the Innovation economy, ability to act as the senior HSBC representative and to ensure HSBC is engaged with the broader ecosystem
  • Have positive and lasting impact on colleagues, customers and other stakeholders by building trust-based relationships underpinned by our values
  • Deliver integration between businesses / functions that encourages a team environment and common identity for employees

Major Challenges:

  • Growing revenues and achieving maximized Economic Profit in a sustainable and balanced manner, operating within relevant risk appetite at all times
  • Establishing and developing the business in a diverse, dynamic, challenging and competitive environment
  • Strengthening brand reputation of HSBC to the Innovation economy
  • Vigilant observation of the Group standards and local legal requirements
  • Managing all banking risks and oversight of the assets and liabilities book, more specifically the Venture Debt proposition across S&SEA.
  • Working on the connected aspects of the role: driving customer/business development with tangible results, opening doors for HSBC opportunities, seeking ways in which HSBC can improve its market position with investors, corporates and other stakeholders across a number of markets.
  • Achievement of Annual and Strategic Plan goals.
  • S&SEA is a dynamic and diverse Region, markets have nuances and these need to be understood and navigated to enable HSBC to connect and support our clients as their needs grow and evolve
Requirements

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills and ability to work across multiple cultures, countries and risk environments. Ability to lead via influence and direct teams towards a common goal
  • Proven experience in tech coverage, venture and growth financing, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of Commercial Banking and Investment Banking product suites and how to mobilise these around investors and corporates
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving growth, innovation and change
  • Knowledge of S&SEA markets and the New Economy drivers across the Region
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and rapidly changing environment, including economic, regulatory and demand changes
  • Bachelor's degree
